DARIAN HEALTH STATS

When the first Darian litter was born in 1987, the only widely available BC litter test was for eyes. Dogs over 12 months old could be hip scored and adult eye tests could be done, but that was about it.

Times change, veterinary medical science moves on, and today there are many more tests we can do to safeguard the future health of our lovely breed. Below is a table showing the health checks we've had done on all the dogs we've owned (not all Darian-born). The second table adds a few results of Darians owned by others.

Where a test hasn't been done (in the early days because it wasn't available), a dash (-) has been entered in that field.
N.B. Litter results (the 6 week eye tests) have been added to the Puppies pages and as there have been no failures to date they're not included here.

KEY
BAER = the BAER Hearing Test scheme
PRA/PLL = the adult eye test which checks for any abnormality but particularly Progressive Retinal Atrophy & Primary Lens Luxation
(Gonioscopy = a test for determining predisposition to develop glaucoma)
CEA/CH = the DNA test for Collie Eye Anomaly/Choroidal Hypoplasia
NCL = the DNA test for Neuronal Ceroid Lipofuscinosis
TNS = the DNA test for Trapped Neutrophil Syndrome
** in any of the DNA fields = Hereditarily Clear ie both parents have either been DNA tested Clear or are themselves Hereditarily Clear
